Project | Probiotics and Epizootic Shell Disease in Lobsters

Epizootic Shell Disease in southern New England lobsters has introduced major challenges to the fishing industry. I am working with an interdisciplinary team of scientists to investigate the effectiveness of live probiotic treatments for infected lobsters. This project is a collaboration between the Gomez-Chiarri Lab, Castro Lab, Nelson Lab, Rowley Lab, and RI SeaGrant at the University of Rhode Island.

Project | Integrative Taxonomy in the Yangtze River Estuary

I used integrative taxonomy as a tool to work towards understanding species diversity and phylogenetic barriers in polychaetes from the Yangtze River Estuary, China. Specifically, I used morphological identification and DNA barcodes to identify numerous species. I worked on this project with the Dr. Yunwei Dong Lab at Xiamen University in China.

Project | Detrital Algae & the Intertidal Zone in Maine

In past decades, the Gulf of Maine experienced an ecological phase shift from coralline-dominated ecosystems to macroalage dominated. The aim of this project was to determine how detrital macroalgae presence influences the distribution and abundance of intertidal fauna on cobble beach in midcoast Maine. I worked on this project with Dr. Richard Wahle at the Darling Marine Center in Maine.
